Glen Lewis, born Lewis Mpotseng Tshinaba in Pimville, Soweto, is a South African DJ, broadcaster, compiler, and entertainment personality widely regarded as one of the pioneering figures in the country’s deep house and MidTempo movement. He developed a passion for music from an early age and began building his career within South Africa’s evolving club and radio culture during the 1990s.
Lewis first gained prominence through radio, working at stations including Radio Thohoyandou, Radio Bop, Metro FM, Radio 2000, Touch HD, and later Kaya FM. Over the years, his smooth on-air presence, refined music selection, and understanding of house music culture helped establish him as one of South Africa’s most respected radio personalities. His long-running shows, including 'The Glenzito SuperDrive' and major Metro FM drivetime slots, earned him national recognition and a loyal audience.
Beyond broadcasting, Glen Lewis became highly influential within South African dance music through his compilation projects and DJ mixes. He was among the pioneers of the 'MidTempo' sound, releasing the landmark 'MidTempo' compilation series beginning in 1999, followed by projects such as "Numero Uno," "MidTempo 2000," and "Gatecrasher Meets Afrika" alongside DJ Fresh. These releases helped popularize soulful and deep house music across South Africa during a formative period in the country’s electronic music scene.
In addition to music and radio, Lewis has appeared as a television personality, including roles on 'Muvhango' and as a judge on 'Popstars South Africa.'
