Born on 12 September 1972 in Watford, Hertfordshire, England, he developed an early interest in the trumpet at a young age and began formal study around childhood, quickly showing advanced musical ability. He later joined the National Youth Jazz Orchestra as its youngest trumpet player, marking the beginning of his professional career.
During his teenage years, Presencer began performing with established jazz ensembles and professional musicians in the United Kingdom. By the late 1980s and early 1990s, he was already active on the British jazz scene, collaborating with major figures in modern jazz and big band settings. He gained early visibility through performances with Stan Tracey and other prominent UK jazz artists, establishing himself as a versatile and technically skilled improviser.
Presencer’s international breakthrough came in the 1990s when he contributed a trumpet solo to US3’s global hit “Cantaloop (Flip Fantasia),” one of the most commercially successful jazz-influenced recordings of the decade. He recorded and performed with a wide range of artists, including Sting, Jamiroquai, Zero 7, Joni Mitchell, Ray Charles, James Brown, and the Pet Shop Boys, demonstrating adaptability across genres.
