Israel Matseke-Zulu, popularly known as GP Ma Orange, is a South African actor, kwaito musician, dancer, and cultural figure widely recognized for his roles portraying gritty, street-level characters in film and television. Born and raised in Alexandra, Johannesburg, he began his creative journey through theatre, forming the Abanqobi Drama Group in the late 1990s, which laid the foundation for his later work in performance arts.
He rose to prominence through acting roles in major South African productions, including the internationally acclaimed film 'Tsotsi' in 2005, as well as television dramas such as Yizo Yizo, iNumber Number, Dora’s Peace, and Hard to Get. His performances often centre on complex criminal or street-influenced characters, earning him recognition as one of South Africa’s most distinctive supporting actors.
On television, he became widely known for his role in Gomora, where he played 'Don,' a returning father figure whose storyline intersects with crime, family conflict, and township survival dynamics.
Beyond acting, GP Ma Orange also built a parallel music career. He recorded kwaito-inspired material, including the soundtrack “Sorry Sarge” with Mandoza, and later released his solo album "Ghetto Professor" in 2006, featuring tracks such as “Gumbafaya” and “Ishumi Leminyaka.”
