Raised in the heartbeat of Tanzania, Gabriel Manase found music long before music found him. Drawn to rhythm and expression from a young age, he spent his early years immersed in church choirs and school performances, quietly learning how words could move hearts. That foundation would later shape his journey into one of Tanzania’s rising songwriters and performers, now known professionally as “Gboy.”
Though he first made his mark behind the scenes, writing in Swahili for artists like Chege (Sir God), Bohari (Nakupendaga), and Mimi Mars (Hakuna Noma), his lyrical style stood out spiritual, heartfelt, and rooted in everyday experience. As his reputation grew, so did his voice. He soon began featuring on tracks himself, including ‘Pesa’ with iamkevincash and ‘Effata’ with Cameroonian rapper BABY3007.
Gabriel’s genre-blending approach weaves together Afro-pop, Bongo Flava, and gospel, always carrying a sense of soul and cultural pride. His Swahili lyrics often speak of hope, resilience, and faith, mirroring the themes that shaped his own upbringing.
In 2024, the African Music Academy named him “Tanzania’s national songwriting laureate,” recognizing his growing influence across East Africa. But even with accolades, Gabriel keeps his focus groundedwriting not for fame, but for connection.
