Journey
Elandré, born Elandré Schwartz in 1995 in Despatch, Eastern Cape, South Africa, is a prominent voice in modern Afrikaans music. Raised in a close-knit town shaped by powerful community and cultural values, he developed an early passion for music and storytelling. His upbringing and deep connection to Afrikaans heritage later became a defining influence on his songwriting and artistic identity. After completing school, he moved to Cape Town to study drama at the Waterfront Theatre School, where he strengthened his performance skills and developed his commanding stage presence.
Elandré gained national attention in 2017 after a video of him performing Bruce Springsteen’s “Tougher Than the Rest” went viral. The performance highlighted his rich, resonant baritone voice and introduced him to audiences across South Africa. The viral success opened professional doors, leading to a recording deal and the official start of his music career.
Later that year, he released his debut album "Kleindorp-Dromer," which quickly achieved gold status and established him as one of the most promising new voices in Afrikaans music. His sound blends country-pop and soulful rock influences, delivered through heartfelt storytelling and emotionally honest songwriting. Songs such as “Die Lyn” and “Vuur op die Water” further cemented his reputation as a relatable and modern storyteller, bridging traditional Afrikaans roots with contemporary musical expression.
