Lungile Harvey, professionally known as DJHarvey, is a South African DJ and producer making waves in the Amapiano scene. Raised in Soweto, Johannesburg, he grew up in a township environment where house, kwaito, and street-born dance sounds shaped everyday musical taste. This early exposure later influenced the direction of his production style.
When Amapiano began rising across South Africa in the late 2010s, Harvey gravitated toward its distinctive log-drum basslines and atmospheric arrangements. He began pursuing music professionally around 2019, establishing himself as both a DJ and studio producer. His early work focused on merging Amapiano’s laid-back groove with energetic percussion suited for clubs and live performances.
As his catalog grew, his music gradually circulated within the Amapiano underground scene. By the early 2020s, his releases were gaining traction on streaming platforms, helping him reach audiences beyond the Johannesburg club circuit.
A significant moment in his career came in 2023, when he performed internationally for the first time in Amsterdam, Netherlands, marking his entry into the European live music circuit. That same year, he released the single “Bhutiza,” which introduced many listeners to his production approach.
DJHarvey’s sound sits between Amapiano, Gqom, and Afropiano, drawing on rhythmic percussion, layered synth textures, and bass-driven grooves designed for both dance floors and digital platforms. His work often reflects the influence of Soweto’s club culture, where collaboration plays a central role in shaping the genre’s sound.
Over time, he has collaborated with several artists within the South African dance music ecosystem, including Major League DJz, Xduppy, Nandipha808, and MrnationThingz. These partnerships have allowed him to explore different stylistic directions while remaining rooted in Amapiano’s core sound.
Among his known releases are “Bhutiza” and “Roba Mkokotlo” (2025) featuring Nobantu Vilakazi, Kabelo Sings, Stompiiey, Massive 95k, and Sjax. His growing catalogue includes singles, collaborative records, and production contributions across multiple projects.
As Amapiano continues its global expansion, DJHarvey’s music has begun attracting listeners beyond South Africa, with audiences emerging in cities such as Johannesburg, Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt.
