Long before public attention, Dawgtah (born Lesego Simon Mphela) was already working behind the scenes as a ghostwriter, contributing material for other artists while staying uncredited. That phase played a quiet role in building his writing discipline, focusing more on structure and delivery than visibility.
A noticeable turning point came when he appeared with Deep Level on a project that introduced him into wider hip-hop circulation. It didn’t instantly redefine his path, but it placed his name in spaces where more collaborations started forming.
After that, he began linking with artists such as Gigi Lamayne, Neo Beats, Omen, and Red Button, expanding his presence across different corners of the hip-hop landscape.
One of his earlier known tracks, “Matchbox,” helped give his name more weight in local conversations around rap at the time.
