In 2010, Dark Master secured a Kili Music Award for Best Collaboration alongside Ngwea for “Nipeni Deal Masela,” a moment that affirmed his longevity in a scene he helped build. More than a decade earlier, he had already been part of a movement that pushed Bongo Hip Hop from regional expression to national conversation.
Born Athuman Kabongo and also known as Darkmaster Mwanachemba, he comes from Tanzania’s Central Zone, rooted in Dodoma’s East Zuu community. In the late 1990s, as Bongo Flava and rap gained ground, he co-founded Muziki Chemba Squad, working closely with Ngwea, Noorah, Mez B, and Tony Kichwa Ngumu. Their run from 1996 positioned them on nationwide charts, supported by collaborations with artists such as Juma Nature, Bushoke, Mangwair, and Brown Punch. His catalog includes albums "Mjukuu wa Chimwaga" (2011) and East Zuu Republic “Mc Mkomunist 1” (2022), alongside songs like “Shega Tu,” “Sema Darkie,” and “HipHop for Life.”
Beyond music, he has appeared in films including "Wahuni Bakani" and "Dili za Mchongo." Today, Dark Master remains active, carrying the voice of East Zuu into new chapters of Tanzanian culture.
