Danelle de Vries is a South African singer-songwriter and performing artist from Worcester in the Western Cape. Her musical roots trace back to early piano and theory lessons through UNISA, followed by vocal training and participation in school musicals and local competitions from her teenage years.
She later studied at the Waterfront Theatre School, where she completed international diplomas in Musical Theatre, Drama, and Dance under Trinity College London—earning distinctions across all her disciplines. This foundation shaped her into a versatile performer equally skilled in singing, acting, and stage movement.
Danelle began her professional journey around 2006, performing with acts such as the Johnny Cooper Big Band and the vocal ensemble Track Five. She describes her sound as “Meander Folk,” a blend of heartfelt storytelling and acoustic instrumentation, often written in both Afrikaans and English. She also plays guitar, piano, and occasionally bass, adding personal depth to her compositions.
Her breakthrough came when a Sony Music Africa representative discovered her performing live in Franschhoek in 2011. This led to the release of her album Son Sien Opkom in October 2012, featuring 14 tracks, 13 of which she wrote herself. The album explores themes of hope, nature, renewal, and human connection, aligning with her reflective artistic style.
Beyond her recording career, Danelle has dedicated herself to music education. She teaches Performing Arts at Worcester-Oos Primary School and serves as a Maestro at the South African Music Appreciation & Development School, inspiring young talents to find their creative voices.
Though she hasn’t received major public awards, Danelle’s work continues to resonate for its sincerity, lyrical warmth, and artistic authenticity. Her music celebrates both the simplicity of nature and the emotional depth of everyday life, making her a cherished voice in South Africa’s folk and pop landscape.
