Journey
DJ Bakstina is a South African DJ, producer, and sound engineer from Atteridgeville, Pretoria, with roots in electronic and deep house-influenced music.
Born Brian Phillipine Tshabalala on 13 October 1989, he began exploring DJing at an early age, performing around age 8 in a family-linked environment at Pat 4 Tavern, where he first gained exposure to live sets and DJ culture.
His professional path gained momentum after being introduced to Fizzy of 187 Records, which opened the door to early studio work and his first major projects. During this period, he released “Time Waits for No Man Vol. 1” and “Vol. 2,” establishing his recording identity.
He later gained wider attention with the track “Tsakane,” which received strong radio rotation and chart recognition across stations including Mungana Lonene FM, YFM, Metro FM, Ligwalagwala FM, and Tshwane FM.
His production approach focuses on deep house foundations, piano-led rhythms, and electronic club arrangements, often designed for both radio and live performance settings. His catalogue includes works such as “Roses From The Pillow,” “Unusual Coincidence,” and “Dashboard Luv,” alongside remixes and compilation features.
Alongside production, he works in sound engineering and collaborative studio roles, with appearances on platforms such as The Lions Radio in the UK, extending his reach beyond South Africa.
