Clive Bruce is a South African singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and television presenter known for country and middle-of-the-road music.
Born in Cape Town, he grew up in a musically active environment and learned multiple instruments, including guitar, piano, drums, and bass, from an early age. His early exposure to recording came through his stepmother, Virginia Lee, a 1960s singer who introduced him to studio environments. During his school years, he performed in bands and later played in groups such as Timepiece and Staccatos, developing experience in both live performance and studio work.
His first major breakthrough arrived in 1970 with the single “Sally Sunshine,” which reached number one on LM Radio’s Top 20 and gained strong national attention. This success opened the door to wider work across radio, studio sessions, backing vocals, and advertising jingles throughout the 1970s and 1980s.
He also became the first voice of “Sarel Seemonster” on the Afrikaans television program Wielie Walie, expanding his profile into children’s television. Later, he hosted Sing Country on TV4, a long-running country music program filmed in Pretoria that became a major platform for local country artists.
During the 1990s, he continued recording music while also working in television presenting and music programming. His 1996 album “One Last Kiss” achieved gold status, marking a major commercial highlight.
Across decades, his career has remained active through recording, broadcasting, live performance, and country music events within South Africa.
