Cindy Alter is a legendary South African musician whose career is a testament to both global success and personal fortitude. She first captured the world's attention in the late 1970s as the frontwoman of the all-female rock group "Clout." The band achieved massive international fame with their 1978 smash hit "Substitute," which dominated charts across Europe and New Zealand, selling millions of copies. Despite the band's eventual dissolution in 1981, Alter’s creative drive remained unshaken.
Her journey took her from the multi-racial sounds of the band "Zia" to the competitive songwriting scenes of Los Angeles. However, her greatest challenge came in 2002 when she was diagnosed with Leukemia. After a grueling recovery, she emerged as a powerful advocate for cancer survivors, documenting her experiences in her autobiography, "No Substitute."
Now based in Nashville, Alter continues to release soul-stirring music, including her recent project "Renegades and Vagabonds," proving her voice is timeless.
