Chrystel grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah, the child of Ivorian immigrant parents. Music was always part of her life. She danced, played sports, and wrote songs from a young age, even learning piano enough to accompany herself while singing. Her childhood was a mix of melodies, rhythms, and competition, a foundation that shaped her drive to improve and constantly challenge herself.
Her family’s West African roots meant she grew up listening to music from the Ivory Coast, Congolese rumba, and Senegalese pop, which instilled a deep appreciation for rhythm, percussion, and the emotional power of music beyond words. These influences now form the backbone of her Afrobeat, Afropop, R&B, and pop style.
Chrystel moved to Atlanta in 2016 and immediately immersed herself in the city’s music scene. Early connections led her to producer Marc Rose, who became a mentor and introduced her to studio work. She quickly made a name for herself, writing and performing, and her talent snowballed from there.
Her debut EP Prey, released in May 2021, garnered over a million streams and showcased her unique fusion of global pop and African-influenced sounds. Tracks like SNAPCHAT featuring Nigerian rapper Blaqbonez, recorded in Lagos, and later releases including Bisous and the 2025 album FURY, highlight her growth and versatility.
Chrystel has collaborated with notable acts, including working on Dreamville sessions with Ari Lennox, a project that earned her a Grammy nomination, fulfilling one of her lifelong aspirations. She continues to work on new projects, including hooks for top Nigerian tracks and collaborations with producers like DJDS, expanding her reach across continents.
