Jamar Rolando McNaughton, known to the world as Chronixx, is a Jamaican artist working across reggae, hip hop, and dancehall. Emerging from Jamaica, he stepped into professional music at a young age and built a presence that would grow to reach audiences far beyond his home country. His voice is his primary instrument, and from his earliest recordings it proved to be the defining force behind his artistic identity.
Chronixx became active in 2011, releasing music through an expansive roster of labels that included ZJ Heno, Special Delivery Music, Lance-A-Lot Productions, Silly Walks Discotheque, Kemistry Records, Nexxstep Network, Overstand Entertainment, and Lifeline Music. His known releases include the singles My Mother, Champion, and Thanks and Praise, as well as the project Smile Jamaica.
Across those years, he cultivated a rich set of collaborations, joining Protoje on Who Knows and No Guarantee, linking with Rudimental, the Picard Brothers, Federation Sound, and Jess Glynne on Dark Clouds, recording Eternal Light with Free Nationals, and appearing alongside Joey Badass on Belly of the Beast. These partnerships placed him in conversation with a broad cross-section of global artists and helped establish his range across multiple sonic territories.
Recognition arrived steadily. At the Linkage Awards in May 2014, Chronixx claimed Culture Artist of the Year, Best New Artist, and Entertainer of the Year three distinctions that marked him as one of the most compelling figures to emerge from Jamaican music in his generation. That momentum carried forward when his album Chronology received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Reggae Album in 2018, one of the most prestigious acknowledgments in the genre. The nomination confirmed what the Linkage wins had signaled years earlier: that Chronixx had moved well past newcomer status and into a sustained artistic career with international weight.
Beyond the awards and the catalog, the body of work Chronixx has assembled across multiple labels and collaborators reflects a deliberate and wide-reaching creative approach. From introspective singles to cross-genre recordings with artists spanning reggae, hip hop, and UK-rooted sounds, his output represents a consistent commitment to the music itself. With Smile Jamaica and the Grammy-nominated Chronology anchoring his discography, Chronixx stands as one of the defining voices in contemporary reggae and dancehall.
