Jean Paul Hagenimana, professionally known as Bushali, also called Bushali the Trigger, is a Rwandan rapper, singer, and songwriter recognized for helping establish KinyaTrap, a style that combines trap music with lyrics delivered in Kinyarwanda. He emerged from Kigali's underground hip-hop community, introducing a distinctly Rwandan perspective to the genre through local language, cultural references, and contemporary production.
He began his music career in 2013, when hip-hop had limited mainstream recognition in Rwanda. Through perseverance and collaborations with Green Ferry Music, Bushali steadily expanded his audience. His debut single, "Tabati," marked his arrival, while the success of "Nituebue" in 2018 accelerated both his career and the growth of the KinyaTrap movement.
His debut album, "Nyiramubande" (2018), introduced his artistic direction, followed by "Kugasima" (2019), which further established his reputation within Rwanda's hip-hop community. He continued with "!B!HE B!7" (2020), the collaborative EP "Kivuruga" with Ghanaian Stallion (2021), and "FULLMOON" (2024), each reflecting his continued artistic development while maintaining his KinyaTrap identity.
Bushali's catalogue features songs including "Kugasima," "Niyibizi," "Tabati," "Mukwaha," "Muyomba," "Urumiya," "Umwali," "Gun," "Imisaraba," and "ZE ZE ZE." He has collaborated with artists such as Bruce Melodie, Ariel Wayz, Kivumbi King, The Ben, Slum Drip, and B-Threy, contributing to the continued growth of Rwanda's contemporary hip-hop landscape.
Bushali is regarded as one of the leading figures behind KinyaTrap, influencing a new generation of Rwandan artists to embrace local language and identity while expanding the international reach of the country's hip-hop culture.
