Thabani Ndlovu, known professionally as Buffalo Souljah, is a pioneering Zimbabwean reggae-dancehall artist and producer based in South Africa. Born on September 16, 1980, in Bulawayo, he was raised in Harare's Mufakose suburb. Music was a family legacy; his late father, Unity Ndlovu, was a respected jazz saxophonist who played alongside Thomas Mapfumo.
Following his father's passing in 1992, Ndlovu threw himself into music, penning his first song at just eight years old.
After gaining early experience with the teenage hip-hop group Intelligent Racuss Cruuks, he relocated to Johannesburg in 1999 to pursue broader career opportunities. His monumental breakthrough arrived in 2008 with the explosive dancehall anthem "Bubble Ya Bums." The track became a massive pan-African hit, establishing him as a heavyweight in the African music industry.
Operating under his own independent record label, United Nations of Africa (U.N.A.), Buffalo Souljah became a dominant force at continental award shows.
He famously won six Channel O Africa Music Video Awards, dominating the Best Ragga/Dancehall category for years. Known for fusing intense dancehall rhythms with conscious African messaging, he remains an enduring cultural ambassador who successfully bridged the gap between Southern African music and global dancehall culture.
