Journey
Botlhale Boikanyo, born on 23 May 2001 in Mahikeng, South Africa, is a spoken-word poet and performer who discovered her talent for language and storytelling at an early age.
She became known across South Africa in 2012 when she won SA’s Got Talent at the age of eleven, impressing audiences with her confident delivery of self-written poetry. This early breakthrough set the foundation for a career that blends creativity, media, and youth-focused advocacy.
As she matured, Botlhale expanded beyond poetry into acting, completing a BA in Motion Picture at AFDA. She later joined the cast of eTV’s Scandal! and went on to appear in films such as The Deal and What About The Boys. Her stage performances, television presenting on shows like TOMZ, and hosting duties at culturally significant events highlight her range and versatility as a performer.
Her commitment to leadership and social upliftment led to her selection as a Mandela Washington Fellow in 2024, where she studied civic engagement at Michigan State University. She also launched the Botlhale Boikanyo Foundation, which uses the arts to encourage youth development, and she serves as a youth ambassador supporting causes linked to the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital.
Botlhale’s work has earned her several awards throughout her journey, including a SATMA Award for Best Praise Singer, a SAMA Award for Best Traditional Music Album, the Architects of Society Award, a South African Youth Award, and a spot in the SA Top 100 Youth list. She has also represented various organisations as an ambassador, reflecting her influence within the cultural and social landscape.
Despite navigating public attention from a young age, Botlhale continues to evolve personally and professionally. She often speaks about resilience, self-confidence, and staying grounded while building her career. Alongside her artistic achievements, she has celebrated personal milestones such as completing her degree and acquiring her own properties.
At her core, Botlhale is driven by the belief that storytelling and creative expression can inspire change. Through her poetry, performances, and social initiatives, she has become an influential young voice in South Africa, an artist who uses her gifts to enlighten, uplift, and empower others.
