Lesego Moiloa, popularly known by his stage name Blaklez, is a South African rapper, songwriter, journalist, television producer, and humanitarian. He was born in Bothithong, Northern Cape, and raised in Queenswood, Pretoria, South Africa. Widely regarded as one of Pretoria's leading hip-hop artists, Blaklez has built a career based on lyrical depth, authenticity, and a strong connection to South African culture.
His journey into the entertainment industry began through journalism rather than music. In 2007, while studying journalism, he secured an internship at HYPE Magazine, one of South Africa's most influential hip-hop publications. During his time there, he wrote numerous cover stories on major artists and gained valuable insight into the music industry. This experience helped shape his artistic vision and eventually inspired him to pursue music professionally.
Blaklez first gained national attention with the release of his debut album "Black Beast" in 2013. The project featured successful songs such as "Hush" and "Don't Be Scared," introducing his unique blend of traditional hip-hop, African influences, and socially conscious storytelling. He followed this success with "A Broken Man's Dream" in 2015, "Baby Brother" in 2019, and "Loyal To The Soil" in 2023.
Known for addressing themes such as inequality, perseverance, identity, and community struggles, Blaklez has earned respect as both a musician and a cultural voice.
