Malusi Ndlovu, professionally known as Beast (Beast RSA), is a Durban-born South African rapper and recording artist known for his ability to move between hip-hop, gqom, Afro-pop, and amapiano without locking himself into a single sound. Raised in KwaMashu and Pinetown, his early exposure to kwaito, Afro-house, and maskandi shaped his understanding of rhythm and local sonic identity, while later discovering Eminem pushed him toward rap and lyrical performance in the Durban underground scene.
He first gained respect in the local hip-hop circuit through early mixtape work, including "Global Warming" in 2012, which positioned him as part of a new wave of Durban MCs building independent credibility. His wider breakout came with the 2015 motivational single “Ithemba”, featuring the late gospel artist S’fiso Ncwane, which introduced him to a broader national audience.
Beast’s career has been defined by collaboration and genre flexibility. In 2020, he released his debut album "It’s a Rap," featuring tracks such as “Never,” “Igosti,” “Mntanomuntu,” and “Sample 46,” highlighting his lyrical range followed by the album "Mix Breed" in 2021, which leaned into amapiano and contemporary dance influences while still grounded in rap, and earlier work that saw him working across hip-hop and gqom spaces.
Across his catalogue, key tracks such as “Never,” “Rock Bottom,” “From The Jump,” “Stay Woke,” and “Defeated” highlight his range, often pairing him with artists like Stogie T, Tellaman, Lastee, and Tribal.
More recently, Beast has continued releasing and featuring on club-driven records, including collaborative hits like “FOMO” and “Sho Boy,” reinforcing his role as a versatile voice within South Africa’s evolving street and commercial music spaces.
