Maryam Merabet, who goes by the stage name Bad Brya, is a Dutch-Moroccan artist who came out of the Amsterdam hip-hop scene. She grew up influenced by her brother’s music collection, and by the age of fourteen, she was already writing her own material. Early influences included the storytelling approach of Tupac Shakur and the rhythmic flow of Bob Marley. Her sound draws from hip-hop, reggae, and traditional Moroccan and Arabic elements.
Bad Brya gained wider attention through collaborations with East African artists, especially Tanzanian rapper Fid Q. She appeared on his track “Vina Mwanzo Kati Na Mwisho,” which highlighted her ability to connect European and African urban styles. In 2007, she released her debut album “Voice Mail” under Controverse Music. Over the years, she has remained active in cross-cultural collaborations and has performed at various European music festivals, building a career that connects different music traditions.
