From the coastal town of Empangeni to the forefront of South Africa’s electronic frontier, Thandolwethu Ntokozo Nkomo, known to the world as Maline Aura, has redefined the role of the vocalist in Afro-house. Her journey is rooted in academic and spiritual discipline; a former choir lead and music graduate from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Maline spent years refining a voice that is both haunting and authoritative. While she began her career under the moniker BlvckBird in 2016, it was her evolution into "Maline Aura" that signaled the birth of her signature sound—a fusion of ancestral resonance and polished modern synths.
The turning point in her career arrived with the 2022 debut EP, Maliné. This project, anchored by the viral success of "Mabebuza," introduced her to a global audience and established her as a storyteller who prioritizes themes of self-worth and healing. Her artistic growth has since been fueled by high-profile collaborations with heavyweights like Sun-El Musician and Shimza on tracks such as "Citadelle."
In 2025 and 2026, Maline's presence in the industry matured significantly. The "Mabebuza Remix Pack" saw her vocals reimagined by Amapiano pioneer Mdu aka TRP and tribal house specialist Atmos Blaq, proving her versatility across sub-genres. Currently signed to Mayonie Productions, she continues to release prolific singles like "Ulwembu" and "Next To You." By balancing commercial success with a commitment to "sacred rhythm," Maline Aura has secured her place as a vital, authentic architect of the contemporary African soundscape.
