Anthony Cornelius Hamilton is a Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter, and producer whose gritty vocals and emotionally raw storytelling have established him as a cornerstone of modern neo-soul and R&B. Born on January 28, 1971, in Charlotte, North Carolina, his musical identity was forged in Southern church choirs, a gospel upbringing that deeply instilled passion and authenticity into his signature vocal style.
In 1992, Hamilton relocated to New York City after signing with Uptown Records. His early solo endeavors were met with industry roadblocks, including shelved albums and corporate transitions. Undeterred, he pivoted to working behind the scenes, penning tracks for other artists and touring globally as a background singer for neo-soul pioneer D'Angelo. His perseverance bore fruit in 2002 when his brilliant guest feature on the Nappy Roots track "Po' Folks" introduced his soulful sound to a mainstream global audience.
Riding this wave of recognition, Hamilton partnered with Jermaine Dupri’s So So Def Recordings to release "Comin' from Where I'm From" (2003). The multi-platinum project delivered the chart-topping masterpiece "Charlene" and launched him into solo stardom. He sustained this commercial and critical momentum with a succession of celebrated, gold-certified follow-ups, including "Ain't Nobody Worryin'" and "The Point of It All."
Beyond his solo catalog, Hamilton has been a highly coveted collaborator, recording with hip-hop icons such as Nas and Jadakiss. In 2009, he secured a Grammy Award alongside soul legend Al Green for their duet "You've Got the Love I Need."
