Journey
ALAYE BABA is a Nigerian Afrobeats, Afro-fusion, and Afrobeat recording artist whose music is deeply rooted in African consciousness, social commentary, and contemporary street culture. Drawing inspiration from musical icons such as Fela Anikulapo Kuti, Lucky Dube, and Bob Marley, he has developed a sound that combines infectious rhythms with meaningful messages. His performances and independent releases have established him as one of the emerging voices representing Kogi State on Nigeria's evolving music scene.
Born Abdullah Hakeem Musa, ALAYE BABA hails from Bassange in Bassa Local Government Area of Kogi State, Nigeria. He was born into a family of five and is the second child as well as the only male among his siblings.
His passion for music began at an early age, and by the age of fourteen he had already started pursuing music seriously. Inspired by the socially conscious works of Fela Anikulapo Kuti, Lucky Dube, and Bob Marley, he chose to embrace Afrobeats as his primary musical direction. Their commitment to addressing social issues through music influenced his desire to create songs that entertain while delivering messages that resonate with everyday people.
ALAYE BABA first gained wider public attention as a contestant on Naija Star Search Season 2, where he showcased his talent before a national audience. The competition served as an important step in his artistic development and contributed to his growing recognition as a performer.
Working as an independent artist, he has continued to release music through major digital streaming platforms, steadily expanding his audience with consistent releases. His catalogue reflects his commitment to building a career independently while remaining true to the Afrobeat tradition that inspires him.
His music blends Afrobeat, Afrobeats, Afro-fusion, and contemporary street-pop, creating a sound characterized by melodic vocal delivery, energetic live performances, contemporary African rhythms, memorable hooks, and socially conscious storytelling. His lyrics often explore themes of ambition, celebration, resilience, relationships, African identity, and everyday life.
Among his notable releases are the album "African" (2023) and the single "NA MY MONEY" (2025), alongside other independently released songs available across major streaming platforms.
Beyond the recording studio, ALAYE BABA has established himself as a vibrant live performer. He has appeared on both local and national stages across Nigeria and has shared the stage with renowned artists including 2Baba (formerly 2face Idibia), Femi Kuti, and D'banj. He is also the founder and host of the annual Kogi Kalakuta Show, an event that celebrates Afrobeat culture while paying tribute to the legacy of Fela Anikulapo Kuti and promoting homegrown talent from Kogi State.
