Abraham Benjamin de Villiers, born in Pretoria, South Africa, is a world-renowned former cricketer, guitarist, singer, and sports icon. Nicknamed “Mr. 360°” for his inventive range of strokes, he changed the way modern batting is viewed through creativity, precision, and explosive stroke play.
A naturally gifted all-round athlete, AB made his international debut for South Africa in 2004 and quickly rose into one of the most respected batters of his generation. Over his career, he scored more than 20,000 international runs and set multiple records, including the fastest half-century, century, and 150 in One Day Internationals. His ability to dominate in all formats made him one of the most feared and admired players in world cricket.
In franchise cricket, he became a global fan favourite through the Indian Premier League, especially with Royal Challengers Bangalore, where his partnerships with Virat Kohli produced some of the most memorable batting displays in the competition’s history. He retired from international cricket in 2021 and was later inducted into the RCB Hall of Fame.
Beyond cricket, de Villiers is recognised for his humility, Christian faith, and creative interests. In 2010, he explored music through a collaboration with Ampie du Preez on the Afrikaans-English album Maak Jou Drome Waar, released under Sony Music Africa. The project featured 14 tracks blending Afrikaans pop and motivational themes, with AB contributing vocals and songwriting on songs such as “Maak Jou Drome Waar,” “Deel Van My,” and “Misunderstood.” The title track was also released as a single with an official music video, marking his structured entry into a recorded music project.
Although his music involvement remains limited compared to cricket, it reflects a brief creative extension beyond sport rather than a full-time career shift.
Off the field, he is a devoted husband, father, and ambassador for the game, widely respected for his character and consistency. AB de Villiers continues to stand as one of South Africa’s most celebrated sporting figures, known for excellence both on and beyond the field.
