The Kabuladda Guitar Singers emerged as pivotal figures in the Ugandan Kadongo Kamu music scene, crafting a legacy rooted in cultural storytelling and instrumental prowess. Founded in the early 1990s by the visionary Kadongo Kamu artist Herman Basudde, the ensemble, initially named the Kabuladda Professional Singers, became synonymous with guitar-driven narrative artistry. Basudde drew on his theatrical experiences from Masaka, channeling them into performances rich with drama and societal reflection, thereby firmly planting the group's roots in Kampala. Tracks such as 'Mukyala Mugerwa' and 'Bus Dunia' became cultural anthems, translating everyday Ugandan life into poignant musical compositions. Following Basudde's tragic passing in 1997, leadership passed to his widow Aisha Nakitto and their son Joseph Katamba, who rejuvenated the group in 1998. Their stewardship has kept the group active, respecting the legacy left by Basudde while also pushing the boundaries of Kadongo Kamu, ensuring its relevance in modern Ugandan music. Today, they continue to resonate with audiences, preserving the genre’s introspective storytelling and aesthetic integrity.
