Journey
Formed in 1980, Umaru Katumba & the Emmitoes emerged from Uganda with a sound that continues to resonate through generations. Anchored by their defining song, "Oli Musajja Ki?", the band became a cultural fixture in the 1980s. The track, known for its infectious melody and reflective lyrics about personal identity, owes much of its timeless appeal to Carol Nakimera, whose poignant lead vocals imbued it with emotional depth. Known more for their impact than prolific output, the band's work diverged from the more politically charged music of their peers, focusing instead on themes that explored everyday life and human nature. With the unfortunate passing of bandleader Umaru Katumba, the band dissolved in 2020, but the legacy of their music endures. Celebrated across Uganda, Umaru Katumba & the Emmitoes have left an indelible mark on the nation's vibrant musical narrative, remembered for moments that continue to inspire audiences today.
