Yanga Sobetwa, born Yanga Khoza (née Sobetwa) on 25 April 2001 in Delft, Cape Town, is a South African singer, songwriter, and performer who gained national attention after winning Idols South Africa Season 14 in 2018 at just 17 years old. Her win marked the beginning of a rapid rise in the music industry, thanks to her powerful vocal ability, emotional delivery, and stage presence.
Following the competition, she released her debut album "Promised Land" in 2019, which quickly topped iTunes charts in South Africa. "Promised Land" featured collaborations with notable artists including, Amanda Black and the Soweto Gospel Choir, highlighting her ability to blend pop, R&B, and gospel influences into projects that resonates with a broad audience.
Yanga has been open about the personal challenges she has faced, including depression and anxiety, and she uses her platform to raise awareness and inspire others to seek help and persevere.
